"  can i be here ... for a night ? "

[ He lets out a brief, low exhale, his gaze lowering for a fraction of a second to the food before sweeping back up to hold Hudson's eyes. His posture remains guarded despite sitting, his muscle memory refusing to completely unwind. ] " I needed a place to lie low for a few hours until the shift changes at dawn. Figure you were going to demand an explanation sooner or later... and you were the only option I trusted not to put a bullet through the back of my head while I caught my breath. "

[ Lucian takes another slow, deliberate bite of the fry, his dark eyes fixed on Hudson as he leans back slightly against the counter. A quiet, dry hum vibrates in his chest at the mention of sleeping on jagged rocks an assassin’s instinct immediately cataloging the detail as either bizarre bravado or a glimpse into a past he knows little about. He lets out a soft, near-silent huff, his head tilting just an inch. ] " Jagged rocks. " [ A faint, sharp ghost of a smirk twitches at the corner of his lips before fading back into his usual unreadable composure. ] " Right. I’ll make sure to note your fondness for terrible posture on your file. " [ He glances down at the pan between them, catching the careful distance Hudson keeps with his fingers a subtle detail Lucian’s trained eyes don’t miss, though he gives no explicit sign of it. Instead, he reaches in with practiced precision to grab another fry, his tone shifting into something quieter, dryly amused as he takes in Hudson's comment about weight gain. ]

            " Consider it my good deed for the night, then. Saving you from the grave threat of extra calories. " [ Knowing Hudson would end up asking why he unexpectedly showed up anyway, Lucian doesn't wait for the question to be voiced. He shifts his weight, the quiet stillness of his movement controlled and intentional as he steps over to the high chair positioned near the counter. He pulls it out slightly and sits, resting one forearm flat against the counter's surface while his dark eyes remain pinned on Hudson, cutting straight to the point. ] " I'm here because the streets are hot tonight," [ his voice drops an octave, low and calm, devoid of panic but carrying the heavy weight of his line of work. ] " Two targets down in the lower district, and half the city’s private security is on high alert looking for someone matching my build. Your place was the only blind spot within six blocks that isn't rigged with cameras or wired to ping a precinct. "

@bloodshed
            hudson doesn’t know how to react to the likely unintentional finger brush, so he elects to say and do absolutely nothing about it. he looks down at the pan of fries and breaded fish, his lips pressing into a thin line. “it comes from where i was raised,” he admits with a shrug of his shoulders. long, pale fingers grab a single fry from the pan to shove in his mouth. he makes sure his fingertips don’t touch his lips incase he grabs more, or lucian decides to grab more. he presses his hip into the edge of the counter, his gaze landing on lucian again. “i sleep on jagged rocks most nights, lucian. i promise i can handle an old couch better than you can.” not even a lie, either. he often liked to fall asleep beneath the warmth of the sun on those rocks, they provided him a warmth the depths of the ocean didn’t. at the verbal thanks, hudson can only give a soft smile. “it’s no trouble. i would have probably eaten everything if you didn’t show up, so you saved me from that unnecessary weight gain.” he’s not sure why the mortal is here, but he is. he won’t pry, but he also won’t make it uncomfortable. at least, that’s his goal.
