Character development, or just owning it?
          
          Several years ago: 
          Some random b*tch: "Oh, god, the dumb queer is here"
          Me (around 6-7th grade): *wearing a dress my mom made me wear, doesn't do anything out of shame and fear*
          
          A couple nights ago at a choir concert:
          Me: *enters the room with a suit on (white button up, black pants, and black platform boots and the faux confidence to rival that of a six year old in a Batman t-shirt)* BEHOLD, THE QUEER IS HERE! BOW TO YOUR FABULOUS KING <3
          My friends in the background: "You're highness!" "My leige!"

Reasons I know the local cops surprisingly well:
          
          1. One cop around my school was ig staking out this one place nearby where students would smoke a lot of weed, and one day, I was walking by with a friend, and he yelled out "Freeze!" Because a kid pulled out what he thought was some sort of illegal drug or something, what it turned out that it was smarties, I was far away, but there was a dead silence, so, just to be silly, I yelled in response "Now everybody clap your hands!". He played it off as if he was in on it, and we jokingly say that I saved him from a group of teens complaining about "the dumb candy-hating cop" (which, like, wtf people? Cops are trying their best!). He's a chill dude.
          2. I come from a neighborhood where a majority of the kids are either neglected or can't afford food, so, when possible, I tend to stock up on school food and I walk around the neighborhood, and hand out food to them. Now, you see, I babysit most of these kids (and some have even called me "Mama/Papa Phoenix", which had made me tear up so often-), and there was this one cop approached me about this and told me that it wasn't exactly legal to just give out food without a permit, especially if I'm getting it from out of the school, but he offered to turn a blind eye to it because he knew these kids needed it, and their parents couldn't be held accountable since their never seemed to be available evidence against them. This cop is just a plain badass in my eyes and has my undying respect
          3. when I was little, I was that kid who talked to A LOT of strangers... And one of those strangers was a cop who just recently retired... He had this specific route he'd patrol, so, everyday, when I was little, I'd always run out to his car, he'd slow to a stop, and I'd give him little drawings and stickers, thanking him for keeping us safe. When he retired, he actually showed some of these drawings at his retirement party, which he told me about bc I apparently reminded him of his late daughter
