‼️ORV LIVE ADAPTATION RANT‼️

This is my honest rant, yet, before we begin, let me make this clear, if you're sensitive to cursing, if you're easily offended by strong opinions, I highly suggest for you to scroll. Scroll now. Kindly scroll, dear. Because I’m about to go off.

First off, let’s talk about how they disrespected Kim Dokja’s birthday by releasing this crap on that exact day. Of all the days in the year, you chose that one? This was supposed to be a day for the fans to celebrate, to honor the character who carried this goddamn story on his broken back, and yet you had the audacity to use it to shove this abomination down our throats? Unbelievable.

And let’s not even start with the casting, because holy hell, the casting is a joke. The phrase 'Disappointed yet expected.' We had our expectations low—like, 17 feet underground low—but even then, they managed to dig deeper. The height difference? A disgrace. Kim Dokja is supposed to be shorter than Yoo Joonghyuk, and yet here we are with a cast where they’re nearly the same height or, God forbid, Kim Dokja looks taller. Like, did y’all even read the damn novel? And don’t get me started on the faces. Look, I get that live-action adaptations can’t always be perfect, but this? This is just straight-up insulting.

Of course, some K-drama, K- Pop and actor stans had to jump in, shipping minors with adults, twisting relationships beyond recognition, and defending it all with the excuse of “they’re just actors.” That’s disgusting. The way people are excusing this is beyond infuriating. Then, some are saying it's only popular because their idol was cast in it. Wow~ wwitwiww~

skibiditri

@skibiditri You know what? I can’t help but ask—was it bad to expect? Was it bad to dream of something better? Something great? Something that you love? Was it really too much to ask for an adaptation that respected the source material? That understood why we love these characters so much?

Ohh yeah, who am I to say this? Just some random fan by the way. Don’t worry. Even though I’m here yapping, you won’t find me watching that crap.

By the way, I've heard Kim Dokja ahjussi will save the earth. Gasp. SUPPORT THE KING ‼️‼️

@skibiditri And don’t even get me started on the fact that we haven’t even seen the Dokkaebi yet, who are crucial to the entire damn story. That alone tells me all I need to know about this mess.

Then we have the director/producer trying to justify the decisions, saying, "Usually, we’ll use guns and swords." Oh, now you’re deciding to talk? After people have called out your nonsense? And now you’re saying you’re following the webtoon?

            No. You’re not.

And let’s clear something up right now, just because the author “agreed” to this adaptation doesn’t mean they actually liked it. People keep acting like the author fully supported this, when in reality, they sold the rights to Naver long ago. Naver is the one pushing all of this, not the author. If you actually followed SS’s notes or interviews, you’d know that they never thought a live-action would do the story justice. They were skeptical. And now we know why.

They should know, that this web novel has one of the largest fanbases in South Korea. Since 2020, Omniscient Reader has remained one of the most popular web novels. It’s known for its deep lore and storytelling.

While the memes are funny, it still makes me wonder, why the hell is Lee Jihye holding a gun? Where did she even get that?

A concerned Korean citizen even commented that the producers are trying to turn this into a generic action movie, rather than staying true to its apocalyptic themes. Gosh.

At this point, all we can do is brace for impact. Because if this is what they showed us in the trailer, then the final product is gonna be an even bigger disaster.

And what, we’re supposed to sit still? Just watch as they completely butcher everything? No way in hell. They should’ve just done it right from the beginning so we could keep our mouths shut. But no, they had to keep screwing up. Disaster after disaster. And now, here we are, watching the trainwreck unfold in slow motion. Oh yeah, the CGI looks great, I'll give yall credit for that.

@skibiditri Oh, but we noticed. And we’re pissed.

And of course, we have people saying, "You guys are overreacting. It’s just a trailer." No. A trailer is supposed to hype you up, to make you excited, not make you want to flip your desk in frustration. A trailer is supposed to show what’s great about the adaptation, not make you question if the directors even skimmed the source material.

Now, let’s talk about the biggest lie of them all—"We’re following the original webtoon." Bullshit. If you were following the original, you wouldn’t have pulled half the crap y'all just did.

Some fans of the other side are telling us to "just don’t watch it, it's not for you, go stick on reading." Oh, so now this isn’t for the fans? Then why the hell it is still titled Omniscient Reader? Why are the character names the same? Why is it riding off the hype of the original? You don’t get to use the name, the world, the characters, and then tell us, the fans who kept this story alive for years, that it’s not for us. The fucking audacity you fucking have you mother fucker.

Was it just to hype their own show? To use us to gain it's populatity? Well, God damn, fine. Y'all got us.

We had faith. We wanted to believe. Some adaptations, like "Weak Hero Class," "Strangers From Hell," and the latest one "Study Group" proved that live-action can be done well. But this? This isn’t it. We’re open to changes, but not changes that tear apart the core of what made the story great.
