his birthday was always a day where his luck cycle gives him more extreme bad luck than usual. because of that he stopped celebrating it the year after his parents died, given the added reason of having no one left who would want to celebrate it with him. he didn’t want to tell anyone his birthday either since he was worried if they tried to do something for him it’d go badly for him, so during the hopes peak academy era, no one in his class knew his birthday except chisa, since as the teacher she’d have access to some student info. she figured that there was probably a reason why he never mentioned his birthday but still wanted her student to know he was appreciated on that day, so she would leave a small gift in his desk before class started on that day so he could receive it indiscreetly to the others. nagito kept those gifts safe as long as he could but he eventually lost them during despair era
after the killing game ends and everyone wakes up from the program, hajime usually spends nagitos birthday by his side and making his day as good as it can be :)
