What. Is. Happening. Today is the day that the Senate approves the electoral votes for a new president. We discussed that in history. We knew it would be different from the other years since this year has already been so odd in so many ways. But I never would've thought of this. I was at play rehursal and was looking through people's stories on Instagram. I clicked on my friend's story and saw a news report that trump supporters were storming the capitol. They were smashing in windows, breaking through police baracades, and trying to disrupt the count. A woman was shot. She is dead. I'm in high school. I'm supposed to read about things like this in history, not live it. I am so angry. I never thought this would happen. This is a nightmare. A group of toddlers throwing a fit that they lost. When BLM protests marched in the streets, unarmed, peacefully protesting the unjust killings of poc they were met with rubber bullets and tear gas. When trump supporters marched on the capitol with guns, climbing the walls and defacing offices, they are met with none of that. I am so sick and tired of it here. My focous should be passing my classes, not watching political chaos unfold as I'm just trying to live my life.

@sophie_potter98 To be honest, I'm not sure what the current protestors' motives are, and it's hard to tell anyone's real motives when tensions are so high. However. I'm not sure you appreciate all that BLM supporters did. Sure, some of them were peaceful. But definitely not all of them, and not even most of them. In Kenosha, WI, for example, over 100 businesses were damaged by rioters and over 40 were destroyed, totalling over $50 million in repairs. And before you say that insurance will cover it, know that the insurance companies don't create money out of thin air—taxes in Kenosha will skyrocket to cover the damage done to their formerly peaceable town. Not defending the current protestors; just trying to make sure you've got all the facts.
