Tell an extraordinary and coherent story and tell it convincingly. Respect the readers and do not spoon-feed them your opinions. The reader posses a brain and should use it while reading, otherwise what is the point? If the reader falls asleep, the author is unquestionably to blame. Keep in mind that the viewpoints of the writer are no grander than those of the reader.
I am an old geezer from Denmark; I write computer code for a living and enjoy a good story as much as everyone else. I have read science fiction all my adult life, and I love this genre above everything else. I abhor plot holes and meaningless chit-chat. Keep it short and to the point. If the author gets paid by the word, it is fair to assume that not all words maintain the same quality.
