Bo-Katan injures Admiral Yularen and tries to take control of the ship, but Ahsoka stops her, not just with battle, but also by getting the Mandalorian fanatic to doubt herself, asking if restoring her homeworld to glory is really worth doing all of this, allying with criminals and would-be Sith. Bo-Katan decides that, no, it isn’t, surrendering herself after Ahsoka defeats her, seeing no more point in fighting, and turns over the information on the Shadow Collective’s dealings after the space battle is over.
            
            We return to the flashback shifting after Anakin confesses his sin to Obi-Wan and Yoda, being surprised that he’s even allowed to remain in the Jedi Order, despite killing women and children in his rage to avenge his mother’s death, with Yoda deciding the Clone Wars as Anakin’s chance to make amends and atone for his greatest failure as a Jedi. The ending shows Anakin remembering those events and apologizing to Obi-Wan for their argument earlier, and how he knows why Obi-Wan felt pity for Maul now that Anakin sees more of himself in the late Sith apprentice than he likes, giving the Chosen One a wakeup call to truly commit to atonement, not just “try” to be a better man.

Anakin and Obi-Wan engage Savage and Maul in a tag team lightsaber duel, while the clone troopers battle the Death Watch. Vizsla kills many clones with his Darksaber, who he sees as subhuman copies of a pretender that couldn’t see that galactic conquest was the way to make the Mandalorians great again, with Captain Rex on the defensive for most of the fight, not being adept at fighting lightsaber wielding opponents, but Commander Cody saves him by firing at Vizsla’s jetpack, causing the Death Watch leader to crash into fuel cells, exploding on impact.
            
            Bo-Katan leads her Nite Owls to the bridge of the *Integrity* to attempt hijacking the ship in order to violate Mandalorian space and attack Sundari from afar as a false flag operation so that Death Watch doesn’t need outsiders to look like liberators, but Ahsoka Tano is waiting for her, and a rematch of their duel on Carlac ensues. Elsewhere, a vengeful Anakin, seeking to make Maul feel the same pain Obi-Wan felt when Qui-Gon died, hacks away at Savage’s defenses and strikes down the Nightbrother.
            
            Shocked at his brother falling, Maul ceases his duel with Obi-Wan and runs to the mortally wounded Savage, who reverts back to his old self and apologizes for being an unworthy apprentice to his brother before he dies. Anakin is confused about why Obi-Wan doesn’t take the opportunity to kill Maul while he’s distracted and how such a monster could feel sadness, before realizing that he’s looking at himself in the mirror, remembering his mother Shmi dying in his arms and his subsequent massacre of the Sand People village responsible. And that realization causes him to realize why Obi-Wan feels sympathy for Maul, because for all intents and purposes, Maul is Anakin if he was taken by the Sith instead of the Jedi. Anakin’s contemplation is interrupted as Maul tries to kill him while he’s off-guard, but Obi-Wan stops him, giving him a mercy kill, and closing the Zabrak’s eyes after he expires.

The story begins with a flashback to not long after the Clone Wars started, with Yoda meditating in his chambers in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant when Anakin Skywalker comes to him with a confession: what he had done in *Attack of the Clones* on Tatooine after he failed to save his mother. Yoda stops him right there, as he sensed what had happened.
            
            Cut roughly three years later to Anakin on the bridge of a Venator Star Destroyer with Obi-Wan Kenobi, set after the season 5 episode “Eminence”, as they’re on a mission to intercept the former Sith Lord Maul and his Shadow Collective from invading Mandalore. The two Jedi Knights have an argument over how they need to kill Maul and his brother Savage Opress, with Anakin wanting to avenge the death of Qui-Gon Jinn and so many innocents, their debate ending rather nastily with the two friends separating for the moment, Obi-Wan hoping that their friendship will not end with such cold words from Anakin.
            
            Maul, Savage, Pre Vizsla, Bo-Katan Kryze, and their thugs from Death Watch, the Hutt Cartel, the Black Sun, and the Pyke Syndicate are aboard several Hutt warships, when suddenly they’re pulled out of hyperspace by interdiction mines planted by Pelta Support Ships from the Open Circle Fleet. Admiral Wullf Yularen contacts them from the bridge of the *Integrity*, demanding them to stand down or be fired upon. Naturally, a space battle ensues, with Maul, Savage, and Death Watch leading boarding parties of the Republic flagship leading the task force.
