            Her molten gaze dragged lazily over the angel afterward, lingering on the polite expression and painfully gentle tone like she couldn’t decide whether to mock him or study him.
            
            “You apologize too much,” Velatrix said flatly. “It makes me want to commit crimes around you just to see if you’d say sorry on my behalf.”
            
            The corner of her mouth twitched upward faintly.
            
            “And rude language?” A quiet huff of laughter escaped her. “Sweetheart, I’m a demon. If the profanity surprises you, wait until you hear my opinions on organized religion.”

          nothing more   ,   nothing less   .
          filling in the gaps in the stars
          other angels leave   .
          
          but there was something on earth      .
          the way the snow glittered in the starlight   .
          the way the frost dusted the periwinkles and bluebells   .

          it started with a few visits
          sneaking out  ,   just to admire the snow  .
          then his magic started to change   .
          the stardust started to change to snowflakes  .
          he couldn't fufill his job  .
          he switched departments   .

          the other angels in the winter department

          blizzards over his flurries   .
          sharp icicles over his crystals   .
          asteriel wasn't good at following
