To be honest I have no idea what I'm doing. What I recommend is to know what your character is like so that it'll be easier to add them into the story. As for how I write I think of how I would react if I were put in those situations, but I personally don't want to affect the plot of the series too heavily so there isn't too different of an impact at the moment. That may change as I continue the story though. Depending on how you want to write your story, you could follow the series or make a new plot, it's important where you want to take your narrative. I'm not too experienced in writing stories especially since this is my first one, but I hope this helps a little!
