Chapter 6
The subsequent days found Kaylin and Clarion constantly in each other's company. They would talk about anything and everything, but mostly frivolous subjects, not wanting to get into any heavy topics at the beginning of their burgeoning friendship. Kaylin was pleased that she hadn't had to see Hailen since that morning that he woke her up and she reveled in the fact that Clarion trusted her without question.
She remembered the morning of her first official meeting with Clarion in a conscious state. The first thing she did was try to assess his health, check that he was recuperating effectively, but he was doing everything he could to hinder her progress. It wasn't intentional and she couldn't fault him for it - especially considering it showed he cared about her - but it was hard to concentrate whenever her asked her if her room was to her satisfaction and whether she was comfortable, breaking it up with apologies pertaining to her brief period of incarceration.
She did eventually manage to conclude her examination and was glad to say that Clarion was well on the way to making a full recovery, providing he maintained his bed rest. She had just scolded him for attempting to get out of bed - in direct defiance to her earlier advice - when a couple of court physicians entered Clarion's chambers and proceeded to fuss over him, asking him how he was and giving him medical advice whilst completely ignoring her presence. There was a small part of her that felt angry at their blatant disregard for her but she bit her tongue and got out of their way knowing that their attitude towards her - and others like her - wasn't likely to change, regardless of the present circumstances.
