            i wouldn’t have held it against you if you had. you’re…a pretty busy guy. besides, it’s not *that* big a deal. it’s just like any other day, *but* i appreciate you showing up. && besides, i have to know what you got me now, can’t leave me hanging like that. that’d be cruel. 

of course i remembered, callie. i wouldn't forget your special day.

            ( she mentally prepared for the worst, bracing herself as she allowed herself to be lead. ) no peeking, i swear, ( she murmured, giving what she hoped was a bright grin, sniffing the air slightly as if to give herself a hint. ) oh god… did you bake for me? *nate* that’s so sweet. 

[ nate nods, small smile taking over a playfully distraught expression. he starts to walk her to the dining hall. ] promise, no peeking— [ on the kitchen island, there was a three tier cake with happy birthday cal, written in pink and a small gift bag beside it. as decent as he was at cooking, baking was a completely different beast, he was glad he took off the day to do it so he could take this time. ] i mayyy have had to ask friday for help a few times— more like the entire time— but it’s your favorite.

            aw, thanks peter. you’re not just saying that to be nice, right? i don’t get how my alarm didn’t go off, i’m half scared to look down && see if my shoes are matching or not. i didn’t miss anything too important, right? nobody noticed hopefully.

( she stepped aside to let him inside before she brought her hair to the side, turning to show the half up zipper. ) && uh, possibly? i think i’ve got a date… last minute thing, but i don’t know how much i trust my mom’s matchmaking skills. if it’s not going good though i maaay call you to stage an emergency to get out of there… if you’re not busy, of course && comfortable with that.

            i… get that, it’s hard not to think like that sometimes. but hey, you’re on a pretty damn good track for that, if i say so myself.

i think about it sometimes when i read some of the stories about them, and i don’t really talk about it because we shouldn’t have to / be / them— i just… think it’d be nice to be known like that.
