Seems like scammers are really working hard these days, especially with the holidays coming. Last week I received an email from a scammer posing as my bank, notifying me about a password reset that I never requested. Just now, I’ve also received an email from facebook, which also is about my supposed password reset request. Both emails have provided links that I’m supposed to click to notify them that I did no such request regarding my password. Thankfully, I did not fall into their schemes and did not click any link.
If you happen to encounter a similar situation, especially if it involves your bank I highly suggest you call your bank’s hotline rather than click any link just to be sure. This is what I did after reading that email from my “bank”. The personnel who attended to me assisted me and helped me make sure that my account is secured, she also suggested not to click any link from an email.
If there should be any changes that should be done to your account, the bank itself will most likely call you and ask you to personally go to the bank to fix things. Regarding online banking, again don’t just click links sent to you. If you are suspicious of the email or any activity in your account, call your bank right away. Most banks I know here in PH have a hotline available 24/7 for cases like this.
My friend’s sister also almost got scammed with the same scheme that I encountered. Luckily they were able to immediately detect the suspicious activity and was able to block it.
Let’s be more vigilant. Better safe than sorry.
