Cling onto everything--CD's, old wrappers, receipts, rocks, seashells, photos and memories. What else is there to do but be human?
Admittedly the pessimistic mindset is attractive (if one doesn't expect anything they cannot be disappointed), yet it only prevents some upset. It does not grant happiness. 
Go be soft, unlovable, loud, average at hobbies, and live in your skin properly. It's your home, not your rented one-room apartment.
