Hey queens, I’ll update when I can, please don’t spam me. The rest of Inside You will be published this week. I work today (bartender life), so no updates today.
After Dominate is published, I’ll be taking a step back from writing on this page for a while and focusing on my main page, @blackmafiastories.
Writing dark books is honestly hard. You have to allow your mind to step into some very dark places to write them. My intention was never to write horror. I wanted to explore extreme obsession, devotion, and love taken to unhealthy extremes. The humor is there intentionally because, without it, these stories would be much darker than they already are.
One thing that does hurt to see, though, is how often my Black women characters are blamed while the white male characters are defended, even when they’re clearly in the wrong. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it’s something I’ve noticed and it can be discouraging as a writer.
It sometimes reflects reality. Men can do some truly awful things and still be given grace, understanding, excuses, and endless chances. Meanwhile, women can make the smallest mistake, react emotionally, or simply not be perfect, and suddenly they’re ridiculed for it.
Of course, readers are free to interpret characters however they want. It’s just something I’ve noticed, and sometimes it makes me wonder if we’re extending the same empathy to all of the characters.
Anyways, love you guys always! ❤️
