Not only is the Mitten a cute nickname for the shape of the state in which I live it is also a necessary accessory many months out of the year. I travel the length of Lake Michigan photographing high-end vacation and residential properties with my husband, and I also hold a Michigan Realtor's license which is slowly and painfully killing the right side of my brain. I'm putting to death the blazer-days of real estate one conviction at a time. Catch me making a cold call and you can be assured the Pod People have made a visit to my home while I was sleeping.

I love to write, and tell stories with photographs. I've always wanted to say, "That's so editorial," because a lot of my work is.

I write essays because I'm bad at fiction. There is so much about real life that is interesting to me, and I figure anything I make up won't be as interesting as the real thing. After years of filling journals with all the angst of a coming of age young girl in the Dutch Reformed Bible Belt of the tippy-top of the Bible Belt, I felt it was time to start writing for myself publicly.
