Get a look at this chapter excerpt from my newest story, "The Lightning Child", which will be posted next Friday, February 24th!
Once I was out of sight of him, all my anger left me and I was a crippled, sad mess. I sagged against the wall with a sigh. I blinked away any tears that threatened to fall, and massaged my arms a little. To say they were sore was an understatement.
“Adira, are you alright?”
I jerked at the voice, and wiped my eyes quickly. I turned and was shocked at who I saw. Tyr stood looking at me with concern.
“Yes, I’m fine. Thank you,” I mumbled, and forced a smile.
“You are aware that I am a god, old enough to have met the very first member of the Valentine clan, and yet you lie to me. Walk with me, child,” Tyr said, and linked his right arm, his handless one, with mine. He steered me gently through the hall, our destination unbeknownst to me.
“Tell me what ails you, Miss Valentine.”
“Have you seen the other two victors?” I asked quietly.
“Yes, I have.”
“So you know I have no chance of surviving, don’t you?” Tears fell freely when I spoke this truth out loud.
“I know that you should not give up just because someone is bigger than you. You could have a mentality bigger than them, and that is what makes you a survivor. Can I tell you a story?” Tyr asked. I nodded.
“Have you ever heard of Fenrir?”
~~~
We stopped walking, and we were in front of the castle’s main doors, “Thank you for sharing that story with me,” I said.
“It was not a story for entertainment. It was to help explain that physical strength does not make you a winner. Although Fenrir was much bigger than I, and I lost my hand, the gods won against him, because it is Fenrir who is locked away, not us. Do not let those men intimidate you or make you feel small, because some of the most powerful people in history were the littlest.”
Keep your eyes peeled for "The Lightning Child" to make its debut next Friday!
