Fun fact on the song 'Fallen Down' From 'Undertale': The reason this may sound nostalgic (despite being a recently made song that people have “grown up with”) is because this samples from Super Nintendo games! Thus, the instruments sound recognizable despite being somewhat foreign all the same. This adds to a feeling of strange calmness yet sadness within the piece, as the instruments feel compressed yet once again distinctly recognizable. The games in question this samples from are Earthbound (Piano, and three separate instruments used as bass lines) and Chrono Trigger (Pan flute and strings in the later half of the song), which are two games well known for good music and both being major inspirations to our dear Toby Fox.
