Not a story update—kind of an important update though.
I came to the U.S. on an H4 visa and my husband has an H1B. Since yesterday afternoon we’ve been hit with chaos. If you’ve been watching the news, you probably know what I mean.
And the worst part? Our visa validity ends in just a week. Yes, a week. We had already filed for an extension, but our bad luck—the process is stuck and the petition hasn’t been filed yet. In the middle of all that, this new bombshell dropped yesterday.
Right now it’s utter chaos, full of stress and uncertainty. Even though we still have a valid visa, we don’t know whether the new rules will apply to us. We’re basically stuck.
If things don’t go well, my husband and I are even planning to catch a midnight flight back to India! We have a lease agreement on our house until next June, and we’ll have to pay a penalty if we leave early.
Don’t get me started on the health-insurance mess—it feels like a total scam.
Seriously, the American dream isn’t worth it! I love the place, the climate, and the people, but not so much the orange-headed man.
I’m not scared of coming back to India—in fact, I’d love to! If I do go back, I can easily put my toddler in playschool and start focusing on my career because I’ll have the support of my entire family. The work stress for my husband would be much lesser in India. We came here for the experience, and I think we’ve had enough of it.
Last year they suddenly created chaos over birth citizenship. Now this.
And last month it was tariffs on Indian products—basic staples like rice and wheat shot up in price.
And now this again!
Amidst all this chaos, I’ll need a little time before the next story update. Please understand. I can’t wait to come back quickly with it!
