More to the story
I was thinking MC having a background in war as a volunteer againts sudden appearance of alien bugs but that will be later in the chapters.
Due to past injury and old age, he dies with regret.
Fast forwards, he wakes up in a younger body of a kid. Its either I go with school infirmary or hospital. Oh his also american. In his future, every human is mostly mixed.
Only few are pure in heritage. Just think about the depopulation and aging generation problem of the other countries got to critical levels that they had to get serious and have more people outside to come.
In his new world, he lives a life of a skinny and scrawny body with a family that are quirky even to him. He learns that the world he was in follows a narrative of a classical american movies.
And if he could describe his situation. He would be the trouble making kid who grows up as a criminal and possibly die to progress a protagonist. He didnt like that so he improves himself, his relations to his new family, and the people around him.
Now them the BS starts when he got involve with others. First.. he isnt a main cast, not a support cast, and barely a background character. The only thing he has is he is not under the influence of the world's narrative.
But oh boy, the narrative gives him a middle finger because ge gets thrown in situations that are, in all its reasons, avoidable. But no says the Narrative, he deal with it and all the drama, horrors, and wacky hijinx of other characters.
It also a progression kinda of thing. Childhood, preteen, teen, young adult, adult. Each progressing to face issues that becomes more serious than the last.
I say kinda because he can get thrown into scenes of horror, supernatural or crime. The one flaw that counters his true free will. He's free real estate for the narrative to use in a situation that the other cast never gets involve in.
