So I was out over summer, and then I injured myself in a depressingly stupid way which prevented me from updating... and now I'm back, with all my robot limbs fully functional. And I'm looking for a way to get back into writing.

          	So... I had this idea.

Colabs. Has anyone actually managed one? If I was to try and find one, is that just a nightmare waiting to happen, or have you all been in a long and happy writing partnership that keeps you going?

          	What do we all think?

@theidiotmachine I agree as far as the relays go. It was pretty fun to participate in, but trying to organize one seems like herding cats.

The play I wrote with my friend was many years ago now, back in the mid-90's. We had discussed it a lot ahead of time, basically brainstorming ideas, and even hammering out the basic plot. I don't remember how many sessions it took us, but we actually met up in person, sat down at the computer and did the actual writing together. It was a lot of fun and creatively rewarding and we were definitely on the same page as far as what we wanted to do.

I'm not sure how that would translate to an online collaboration with someone you haven't met in real life, but I suppose as long as you could get on the same wavelength, I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be doable. The discussions just wouldn't be in person and the actual writing would have to be done individually, although obviously input could be given and changes made.

@Nyhterides that's cool! How do you manage your planning and stuff?

@Wuckster The relays are fun but I've seen a little of how much work Jinn puts in and it's *huge*. But, yeah they are cool! How did you manage the collab with your friend?

I normally post on a Friday with an update... But today I have nothing! I'm writing -- duh -- but none of it's ready for the big time. It's all just words, some of which I like, in an order that I don't, like a sausage without a rocket launcher. Or something.

Anyway. I just wanted to wish you all a lovely weekend! Enjoy.

I did it. The Wattys open in 5 days, so now I need to get on with loglines and summaries and all that junk... But right now I can bask in the glow of finishing Star. I edited like a demon and I'm really happy with the result.

If you've been waiting for it to be finished, now is the time to take the plunge? If you were reading along... man you have a wild ride ahead of you.

Right, I'm off to watch the footy! Hope the rest of the week goes well!

I've not been very good at announcing these, and I'm sorry, but as you may know most months I write a story for Tevun Krus, the SF zine run by @Ooorah. This month it's about the Mandela Effect: the idea that we're all gripped by collective false memories. I really struggled to get my story down to a decent length -- it's like 6k words which is a shockingly long story for a single WP chapter -- and might have been better off as a novella. Having said that, this one's enough of a labour of love that now I've slogged through researching and writing it, I'm pretty proud of it, and you might like it too?

There's other great stuff there too, from all my favourite writers!

In other news, I finally finished Star on my laptop. Assuming no disasters, I foresee some frenzied uploading in my not-too-distant future...

The rain stripes the windows and the sun shivers behind a thick, grey duvet of cloud. The birds and commuters are hiding under whatever shelter they can find, silent, watching. All except me, who doesn't have an umbrella or a coat, and come now, what's a British June without some drizzle?

I am soooo behind. The wattys opens on the fifteenth I haven't finished the final edit on my laptop (although I only have two thousand words to go), and I am behind on posting, too. But that's okay! It just means you get four chapters today. Four! I've heard of episodic posting, and I laugh at it, the way that I laugh at the rain which will soon be running down my neck and splashing around my feet.

In those chapters all sorts of things happens. And if you read them, you can find out what!

          Have a lovely weekend, folks!

I am a week older. I look back upon my youth of last week, and I laugh bitterly at its folly. I look at my old, old hands and my old, old laptop, on this old, old train; and I press the old, old button which publishes some new, new chapters for you.

In them we learn about Molina's past, and Saltha joins in a drinking game.

Hello! It's Friday, it's bright and sunny, the weekend stretches before me like a feast I've not yet started or I don't know, an incredible horse. An INCREDIBLE HORSE.

One chapter: Saltha makes preparations. Molina gets suspicious.

Enjoy riding the horse of the weekend!
