I still find it odd how Jason Todd & Helena Bertinelli Fans (across all platforms) have been parading and applauding DC for firing GFM and scrapping the Red Hood series. I don’t condone any of GFM’s actions or her statements prior to her Bluesky post, but it shows the double standards DC Comics executives and their fans hold toward writers, [you could honestly extend this to beyond DC, but I’ll be focused on DC here]. DC was aware of GFM’s posts and proceeded to approach her with this pitch for a Red Hood series. They were aware of who they are, so this shouldn’t have been something unexpected for them. And honestly, considering how Kirk advocated against marginalized communities — they should not extend empathy toward him, not when Kirk has spoken out many times against them and continued to spew hatred toward those communities. DC continues to employ writers such as Tom King, Jeph Loeb, and, meanwhile, you have fans who heavily scrutinize works from Gail Simone, Devin Grayson, GFM, but continue to praise Scott Lobdell, Chuck Dixon, Marv Wolfman, Karl Kesel, Phil Jimenez, and, honestly, so many other male writers. We tend to hold these female creators to impossibly perfect standards, but then proceed to turn around and praise male writers for the bare minimum. You cannot put down GFM without acknowledging the other bigoted and problematic DC writers.
