Hi, you just wrote a comment on my book about my use of inappropriate descriptions for one of my characters. I'm definitely trying to learn. I feel like I have since I wrote Roomies two years ago. Honestly I still am unclear why describing someone by their skin color or their ethnic background when as a writer you're trying to paint a vivid picture of a person isn't okay. It's not like those are the only descriptions I have for Diego and if you continue to read, he's basically the hero of this series of three books. I get that it must not be okay, because when I'm called out for those two specific descriptions you mentioned, and you're not the first to do so, I get that creepy crawly feeling white people get when someone accuses them of being racist. Which I've found is usually an indication that I've actually been racist without meaning to. I'm just trying to be upfront with you. Do you have any good suggestions for me in the future? Should I just not describe skin color or use someone's ethnicity as a description?
