Ross Martin is the author of The Oxbow, the first in a series of books based in that world. The Oxbow is a part of the river cut off long ago, a world of cutthroats and wandering spirits; of antiquated people who practice folk magic and pilot paddle boats; and a showboat with bizarre and disturbing performances. Rufus soon finds himself faced with a choice that could pit brother against brother: is blood thicker than water, or will he be able to rise above his family's notorious image? 

Raised in a small Missouri town, he grew up hearing tales about his riverboat-faring ancestors. He holds a Master's degree in Creative Writing from Royal Holloway, University of London and is also a founding member of the experimental music outfit, Lowlegs. He writes about the world of the Oxbow from his home in Austin, Texas.
