Elara dropped a set of audio schematics, scattering papers across the floor.

“Ugh, of course,” she muttered, kneeling to gather them. She looked up to see the the other already crouching beside her.

“Thanks… I don’t know why my hands are shaking,” she admitted quietly. “I’m fine. Probably just… long shift. You know how it gets.”

Sometimes, he stayed after hours.

Officially, it was to restock supplies or finish reports. Unofficially, it was because he didn’t trust what happened when the lights dimmed and the crowds left. He’d seen too many injuries that didn’t add up. Heard too many parents say, “They were fine a second ago.”

Security told him to leave those concerns alone.

            He didn’t.

One night, after hours, Laurence responded to a maintenance distress call in the lower levels — the kind of place guests never saw. An animatronic had reactivated mid-repair. A technician was hurt. Laurence stayed longer than he should have.

That was the night he lost his arm.

Fazbear Entertainment called it an “equipment malfunction.” Laurence remembered the pressure. The grip. The way the machine didn’t let go until something else took his place.

He woke up with a replacement he never consented to.

A part of him feels like it was all planned...

Now, Laurence still works the day shift.

He still treats kids. Still hands out stickers. Still smiles softly and tells them they’re brave.

But he wears a sling — always. Bandages. Long sleeves. Excuses about nerve damage and old injuries. No one questions a medic who looks hurt.

 BACKSTORY :
Before he ever set foot in the Mega Pizzaplex, Laurence Hale worked pediatric emergency medicine. He was good with kids in a quiet, steady way — never loud, never patronizing. When children cried, he didn’t rush them. He knelt, spoke softly, let them calm on their own. Parents trusted him almost immediately.

That patience is what got him noticed.

After a series of budget cuts and an incident at a small family entertainment center involving faulty ride restraints and multiple injured children, Laurence was quietly let go. The official report blamed “mismanagement.” Laurence knew the truth: outdated safety systems, ignored warnings, and corporate silence. He tried to push back. He was blacklisted instead.

A Fazbear Entertainment recruiter contacted him not long after.

They needed a daytime medic for the Mega Pizzaplex — someone who could treat scraped knees, panic attacks, fainting spells, and the occasional broken arm without alarming parents. Someone calm. Someone discreet. The pay was good. The questions were few. Laurence accepted.

During the day, Laurence worked out of a brightly painted medical room just off the main atrium. Cartoon posters. Child-sized bandages. Stickers for bravery. He was known by the kids as “the quiet doctor.”

He loved that part of the job.

He learned which children came back often, which ones hated the animatronics, which ones clung too tightly to their parents. He was especially attentive to kids who got hurt near the animatronic stages — burns from faulty wiring, strange bruises no one could explain. He documented everything. Too much, according to management.
