“ Hange-san! when was the last time you left the lab? aren't you supposed to be on break? ”

the redhead let out a sigh of relief when the stopped struggling; they weren't exactly the lightest person. as they left, she managed to lock the door behind them so they couldn't go straight back in. “ yes, but coffee, bread, and overworking yourself without proper rest can make you sick, Hange-san. ” for as many times as she'd done this, their behavior didn't affect her in doing the task, just quietly urging them to stop and rest. “ besides, I'm not going to make you bathe. I'm saving that for captain Levi. ”

As the project they were working on got further and further away since they were being dragged away from it, Hange’s cheeks puffed up. Lacking the energy to resist any longer, their head hung low and they let out a big sigh of disappointment. A workaholic at their finest. “I’ve never heard of someone dying because they liked to work,” the brunette complained, still clearly wanting to defend their urge to work. Standing up straight and walking next to Nifa, they took one last glance at their work before leaving the lab with their arms crossed. “Anyone can function for a long time with coffee and bread! I’ve been just fine in my lab, trust me!” They countered at the tease.

if it weren't for the serious matter at hand of getting her section commander to rest, Nifa would have laughed at their childlike behavior. especially since they hadn't slept, they sounded like a grumpy child that didn't want to go to bed and continue playing; then again they practically were, just much older, and dealing with more dangerous objects. she let a fond smile slip on her face at first, but let it slip as she kept up her stern demeanor. and without giving in, she continued to pull them away from whatever they had been working on. she knew that Hange didn't feel that self care was necessary, and had stopped trying to break them from that thought a while ago. “ you can get to it later, bun-taichō. I don't want you to drop dead in here. ” honestly if they had, she probably wouldn't have been able to tell for at least a few hours, seeing as the room itself didn't smell the greatest; combination of whatever Hange was working with and Hange themself. she also hoped that since they were so sleep deprived, they would stop fighting to get back, and make it easier for her to drag them off. “ I'm taking you to get some food. I'm surprised you're still functional. ” although there was a hint of teasing in her sentence, she really didn't know how they were.

'' commander hange, we can't keep doing this! '' armin is pacing back in forth across the room, running his hands through his hair. another 'strategy' meeting had crumbled to disaster, and while he knew that it wasn't his place to really be angry at his superior, he hadn't been able to help it before it happened. it felt lik they had only been going backwards. '' don't you understand that? what are you thinking? ''

he feels bad for how he had snapped at his commander, and for a small second, his pacing ceases so that he can study the map once more. it isn't their fault that they can only do so much. there are rules that they must abide by, not to mention that having eren meant that there was a consistent wild card within their ranks. the yelling wouldn't make anything better. and even so, everything was beyong hange's control. too many outside factors were affecting what their plans would have to be like in the end. " we keep wasting resources that we don't have enough of to waste! this isn't the same as it was beforehand. we have to figure out something else that would make things work better! " he looks over the map from his position, avoiding his superior's gaze. he doesn't want to know what they're thinking, or how they're looking at him. he's aware that what he had said was perhaps out of line, but he didn't know what else he could do. erwin wouldn't have snapped like this, which they all knew. he would have probably found a solution that nobody else was prepared for or considering, because that was what erwin had always done. hange being forced to carry the burden upon their shoulders wasn't fair -- not when armin being alive caused that burden. " the public doesn't like how things are, commander. "

Eyebrows furrowed, they felt so lost while they scanned over the map that had the strategy planned out. The map didn’t appear all that different from the last plan that was carried out or the plans before that. Armin was right, they can’t keep doing the same thing over and over again while expecting different results. At first, they were unbothered by the blonde’s upset and loud tone that he had taken. Despite being the commander, they were at a loss for what to do. Their dead hues rose from the plan being discussed to the male in front of them. Tapping their index finger against the table, they gently bit the inside of their cheek while searching for an answer through Armin’s hues. Realizing what they were really searching for, they grew angry with themself. “I’m /thinking/ about what could be the best choice for the rest of humanity. I’m juggling as many options as I can here, Arlert. I will not apologize if they aren’t to your liking!” They retorted, their voice stern and unwavering. To ask Armin to make the plan himself would’ve been selfish. That wasn’t his job. Asking him to fill in Erwin’s shoes would’ve been too much of a burden to bear. They wanted to punch themself for even thinking of that.
