* She tends to slip into French unconsciously whenever emotional, exhausted, or trying to hide sincerity beneath elegance.
          	  * She tends to sit with perfect posture even when alone, as though years of royal scrutiny never truly leave her body.
          	  * The princess prefers nighttime over mornings. She finds the palace quieter when the world is asleep.
          	  * She is secretly sentimental and keeps small meaningless objects tied to memories, though she hides them away where no one would ever think to look.
          	  * Iracebeth secretly enjoys being read to. She would never ask for it outright, but she finds quiet voices and stories oddly comforting in a way she cannot properly explain.

* She dislikes loud rooms but refuses to admit they overwhelm her, often leaving gatherings without explanation instead.
          	  * Despite claiming to hate gardens, she knows the names of nearly every flower grown within the palace grounds.
          	  * She wears dark siren-like makeup intentionally; she prefers looking intimidating before approachable.
          	  * Iracebeth struggles deeply with physical affection and often freezes for a second before reciprocating anything gentle.
          	  * She speaks several languages expected of royal education — including French, Latin, and Italian — though French has always been her favorite. She claims it sounds prettier and far more intelligent than English, especially when insulting people.

* Iracebeth hates being called “Racey.” Most people earn an immediate glare for it, though the handful closest to her are begrudgingly allowed the privilege.
          	  * She straightens her naturally curled hair as a quiet act of rebellion against her mother. It is one of the few choices she feels entirely belongs to her.
          	  * She has a habit of smoothing out wrinkles in her gloves or dresses whenever irritated, anxious, or emotionally cornered.
          	  * Iracebeth almost never raises her voice. The calmer she sounds, the more dangerous she usually is.

Iracebeth fell quiet for a moment at that, crimson eyes lowering briefly before she gave a soft exhale through her nose.

“You say things like that so casually.” Her voice lacked its usual bite now, quieter around the edges. “As though it is normal to notice when someone is dimmer than usual.”

She glanced back toward Winnie with the faintest tired look.

“…I suppose that is why I keep you around.”

Nothing has ruined my roses, Winnie. Some of us simply possess faces that do not look perpetually delighted by the existence of clouds and teacups (…)

⠀ ⠀ tea ? i made cakes as well — lemon . and the tea is obviously earl grey.

⠀ ⠀ winnie is already pouring iracebeth’s cup while she speaks, setting it aside the small tower of lemon cakes waiting from the princess. she takes a bite of her own, “what if it were earl grey cakes and lemon tea ? would you say that was an acceptable option ? or how about cake tea with tea cakes !”

Iracebeth stared at her for a long moment before exhaling softly through her nose.

“…You say ‘obviously Earl Grey’ as though there was ever another acceptable option.”

            A pause.

“The lemon cakes sound tolerable, I suppose.”

Iracebeth glanced at her with faint disbelief, smoothing a wrinkle from her glove before answering.

“I’m not grumpy. You simply mistake a lack of constant enthusiasm for hostility.”

Iracebeth stared at the teacup for a long moment, visibly trying to process the explanation before giving a slow blink.

“So the mouse is a knight.” Her voice remained flat with disbelief. “Naturally. And here I was foolish enough to think the teacup itself was the strangest part of this conversation.”

Iracebeth blinked once at the scandalized reaction before giving a slow, almost reluctant nod.

“My apologies.” Her tone remained perfectly dry. “Your teacup companion, then.” Her gaze flicked briefly toward the cup atop Maddie’s head. “Though I still question the practicality of storing him there.”
