( she didn’t budge, unwilling to leave his side despite knowing how much he loathed appearing weak. her body, her very instincts, refused to let her walk away when he looked like this. ) do you know the first time i ever heard your name? [ she leaned her head gently on his shoulder, her gaze fixed on the empty space in front of them, lost in thought. the ball was more important to her than she cared to admit. for the first time in her entire time at hogwarts, a guy had asked her to the ball— the infamous jenkins from gryffindor. it felt like her first and possibly last chance to feel something more than invisible. ]

            a book,, ( he replied humorlessly,, before giving her a tight lipped smile, one that seemed... forced. it was an old book, with a tattered, emerald green cover, the title engraved in faded, gold lettering. he showed her the cover. there, in all capital letters was the name; secrets of magicke most olde. even the way the title was phrased in old english, it was clear the book was ancient. )

don’t give me that look,, [ her voice almost pleading as she crossed her arms over her chest. she recognized that expression instantly, the one that always left her feeling cornered, as if he could coax every thought from her without saying a word. she shifted uncomfortably, her gaze dropping to the book in his hands. ] what are you reading?
