*  shan - yu doesn't seem like the type who would be accepting of them being gender fluid.  this is why they're closeted.  she'll reveal it if she's comfortable with someone  ,  but otherwise  —  it's unknown.

          	  *  they have their own pet bird just like shan - yu! they named him hayato.  they're very very close! she talks to him and he understands.  it's the same connection that shan - yu has with hayabusa.

PERSONALITY :   hao yu is quiet  —  unnervingly so.  he doesn't make any sound  —  doesn't want to be detected unless   /  he  /   allows it.  it's not uncommon for them to sneak up on people .. although it's not always intentional.  she's pretty reserved and closed off.  talking to people isn't easy for them.  they're awkward and soft spoken  ,  but they're nice despite .. everything about them.
          	  
          	  ¹ doesn't understand slang or figures of speech.  it's not uncommon for them to be confused by a joke.
          	  
          	  ² she's absolutely terrible at making decisions for herself.  it's not something he's used to.

hao - yu left the isle of the lost to go to auradon prep with the main group.  this would be the first time he's been away from the influence of shan - yu.  her father originally had her leave in order to initiate their plans of revenge.  little did he know that sending him away would finally allow him to think for herself.  this is when they start questioning their fathers words and the way they're living.  while it's definitely not a quick thing  ,  he does steadily begin to lose faith in their father's teachings.
