Last week 1000 scientists from 25 countries protested against the government to take action on climate change after the IPCC report was released. "The report warned that rapid and deep cuts to greenhouse gas emissions are necessary by 2025 to avoid catastrophic climate effects" (Smithsonian Magazine). In Los Angeles, Scientist Peter Kalmus said “We’ve been trying to warn you guys for so many decades,” Kalmus says, his voice shaking. “The scientists of the world have been being ignored. And it’s gotta stop. We’re going to lose everything.” The scientists were met with 100 police officers with riot gear and the arrested the scientists. Kalmus has said in The Guardian (Newspaper) interview that “It’s now the eleventh hour and I feel terrified for my kids, and terrified for humanity,” he writes in a Guardian op-ed. “I feel deep grief over the loss of forests and corals and diminishing biodiversity. But I’ll keep fighting as hard as I can for this Earth, no matter how bad it gets, because it can always get worse. And it will continue to get worse until we end the fossil fuel industry and the exponential quest for ever more profit at the expense of everything else.” I just want to let you all know what is going on and help spread awareness of the situation.
