illustrations danced on the beauty they call paper, and lee sighed in contempt. angst nibbled at her patience, damned jim gordon the center of her attention again. yet, somehow, lee knew he cared about her deeply.
jim was a hero. the only good in a town like gotham. it was no wonder the doctor fell for him, but the real question was why she fell for his darkness too.
his eyes were empty. he never shook under pressure. he always knew a way out, was always very careful but scattered. his end would always be a good end, an end where gotham is saved and no one is hurt. yet, his end is dark, because she knows he would end unsatisfied. sad. she knows he'll end alone.
she was an accomplice in his work. his motivation. nothing more. she would end dead no matter what, whether it be a freak accident or a cruel fatality.
but she was selfish. she knows it would hurt him deeply when she is finally gone, but in a way, he's selfish too. he knows she will die. he knows he settled his fate when he'd moved to gotham. he knows that he will never be happy, fully content when everything he loves will always wilt and rot during the rise to justice.
but maybe that's why she loves him. because he's determined, and not even that amount of loss will stop him.
