I like to think that the reason 035 lied about his relationship with 049 during his interview is because it's what he wanted to happen. He lied about 049 wearing him being mutual and equal because that's what he wanted it and thought of it as. And he in hopes that he'd finally make 049 look away from his work he spread rumours about him and stuff.  But hey that's just a theory... I'm very sad that what he said was a lie so I made this up to tell myself this whenever I think of it :(
