Hello! Thanks for the message!

A couple of things inspired the Masquerade:

            1. The Venetian Carnival. Before the Lenten season, Venice hosts a Carnival to celebrate before they have to fast. This Carnival is world famous for its elaborate and stunningly beautiful masks. Just look up picture; it’s gorgeous.

            2. Also involving Venice, is “Commedia dell’arte.” It was a form of stock theatre that was popular between the 16th and 18th centuries in Europe. Each character had their own mask and story. It’s quite interesting.

            3. The Italian Renaissance and Victorian Era. There’s nothing specific about these two periods that inspired me, just in general, I find them both fascinating. I tried to capture the aesthetic of both.

            4. Lastly, music. One day, I stumbled upon Peter Gundry’s “The Vampire Masquerade” on YouTube one day and thus, this story was born. After I listened to that, I became obsessed with Gundry’s music. Here’s a playlist of his other waltzes that inspired the Masquerade: https://open.spotify.com/album/3zGkOd2DsJDECCFixIWeOH?si=V25PqwNmTNeKUVtnFKG8BA
