hi! yes, i am still alive and kicking - in fact, i finished my first fantasy novel a few months ago, clocking in at 115k words. while this is being edited, i am doing a little experiment of pantsing, aka not planning anything (and i mean - absolutely anything) while writing. this has resulted in UNDER THE WILLOW TREE, which you can now read, with chapters coming as soon as they are written.
it's a first draft so it may not be the cleanest, clearest piece of work, but it's dear to my heart and filled with experimental prose, points of view, and many more narrative tools and techniques that i've always wanted to explore but never found the means to. this story, imperfect as it is, is my love letter to the art of writing - and i hope you join me on this journey.
In UNDER THE WILLOW TREE, we follow a cast of characters who are the residents of a town called Bucksburn, which is haunted by an entity known only as the saint. Two friends make the mistake of striking a bargain on All Saints' Day and find themselves wrapped up in the town's history, both dead and living, in an attempt to untangle the bargain and the curse it comes with - or before the next All Saints' Day, one of them will die.
(note: there is some romance but it is far from the central theme, which is, ahem, friendship. how far would YOU be willing to go to save your best friend from dying?)
