if  trying  to  stop  you  from  making  the  worst  decision  of  your  life  makes  me  the  hero  then  i  guess  i  am.  i  watched  so  many  people  /  die  /  out  there  wesker.  maybe  you're  right..  maybe  i  never  understood  you  because  you  never  let  me.  ⁽  his  guard  wouldn't  lower,  not  even  when  he  knew  he  could  be  overpowered  at  any  second. ⁾  i  will  stop  you,  or  i  will  die  trying.

@survivorsqualms    what  happened  to  me?  you  did,  chris.  you  and  your  endless  crusade  to  be  the  hero.  (  he  circled  him  like  a  predator  who  once  loved  the  prey,  his  voice  like  steel  but  with  an  undercurrent  of  disappointment. )  you  never  saw  the  future.  only  the  wreckage  of  the  past.  and  now  you  stand  there,  self–righteous,  furious.  pretending  you  ever  understood  me.

i  didn't  even  know  you  were  alive  five  minutes  ago,  wesker.  i  don't  even  know  what  to  believe  right  now.  i  want  what  you're  saying  to  be  true.  that  you  wouldn't  ever  let  anything  happen  to  me.  but..  i  just  don't  know.  ⁽  so  many  emotions  buzzed  through  him,  relief,  anger,  sadness.  everything  all  at  once  as  he  looked  down. ⁾  i  want  to  believe  in  you.  i  really  do.  but  can  i  trust  you  again .ᐣ  are  you  going  to  turn  and  do  this  all  over  again .ᐣ

@survivorsqualms    don’t  speak  to  me  of  risk.  i  calculated  every  variable—  ( he  stopped  himself,  then  laughed  quiet  and  humorlessly. )  of  course  you’d  see  it  that  way.  you  think  i  left  you  behind.  that  i  chose  power  over  you.  but  you  were  never  in  danger,  chris.  ( his  voice  dropped,  sharp  but  not  raised.  more  intimate  than  angry. )  i  would’ve  burned  the  whole  facility  down  before  i  let  them  touch  you.  but  you  don’t  believe  that,  do  you?  because  if  you  did…  you’d  have  to  admit  that  part  of  you  still  wants  to  believe  in  me.

you  left  us  all  what  you  did  could've killed  us.  you  were  willing  to  risk  my  life  and  the  remainder  of  s.t.a.r.s  because  i  didn't  agree  with  you.ᐣ  i  didn't  choose  anything  but  a  good  head  on  my  shoulders  over  you,  albert.  i  know  exactly  how  much  i  mean  to  you.  ⁽  his  step  forward  prompted  chris  to  take  a  corresponding  step  backwards. ⁾

(  his  voice  cut  in,  calm  but  authoritative.  he  held  out  the  crisp  folder  to  him,  gaze  steady. )  preliminary  schedule  for  next  week.  you  weren’t  meant  to  receive  it  yet,  but  i  thought  you’d  appreciate  an  early  look.  (  wesker  didn’t  let  it  go  right  away,  the  barest  resistance  in  the  handoff  so  that  his  next  words  would  land. )  be  sure  to  check  the  thursday  rotation.  run  along  now,  chris.

@survivorsqualms    ( wesker’s  eyes  narrowed  slightly,  his  tone  cool  but  unmistakably  entertained  because  chris  was  right  of  course.  but  wesker  loved  to  see  his  reactions  when  he  teased  him—  and  the  captain  never  started  something  he  couldn’t  finish,  certainly  not  so  with  his  christopher.  once  he  had  finished  helping  the  point  man  he  turned  to  retrieve  a  folder  from  his  desk,  marked  with  today’s  date,  clipped  shut. )  tch.  you  speak  as  if  i’m  the  one  slipping,  redfield.  you  should  know  by  now  i  never  correct  outside  the  office.  i  discipline.
