sadly, there didn't seem to be anything simple about this situation. he was very hesitant, taking the offered hand as if half expecting to just die from doing so. fortunately, he didn't. " a doctor? this a common thin' your world's doctors do? " he hated the cold sweat creeping over his whole body. he had been in a situation like this before. though, all this time, he was convinced it was a bad night and too many drinks. now there was no shrugging it off. not after a second time. he had that horrible sinking feeling again. a voice reaching out but can't quite get through. it set his senses off, even if there was no immediate danger. 
            
            " demons, lab monsters. can't be that different, right? sure takes a punch though. " he stepped away, leaning by a wall to get his bearing a little. as much as he could. convince his mind it was safe. but there was this noise. like something screaming at him, enough to cause a sharp pain at the base of his skull, yet felt worlds away at the same time. he rubbed the back of his neck, half checking if it was a wound that was hurting so much, knowing we'll it wasn't. not one to show vulnerability he'd play it off as an awkward gesture not to even think twice about. 
            
            " startin' simple ... why me and where even are we? " from experience he was sure there was another spider. why couldn't they help? or at least, why couldn't the so-called doctor do it on his own? nothing about this sat right with him. especially being pulled into a mess he wasn't so sure he wanted to be part of.

            Three eyes remained closed at the voice. It was wasted against the remaining backdrop of wails that escaped his closing portal. Bloodcurdling screams echoed across space and time, but no hand dared reach out into his domain. 
            
            As if on cue, his eyes popped open the second the floating energy shut completely. Flesh melted against flesh, and once again the sorcerer wore his lonesome two eyes. They met the stranger, and a sigh floated between them. 
            
            "Unfortunately for the two of us, logic is not my strong suit these days." His tone and facial expression were horribly mismatched. The missing link between the two being any semblance of humor, where there was … a lightness? Despite having no real assets, the savvier side of him never quite extinguished. His eyes raked over the man and paid special attention to the energy attached to him. He wasn't from here, that was obvious. What he was doing here required further investigation. "Dr. Strange," he greeted with a faint smile, offering a handshake that barely held any strength. " I'll explain the Neo-demons, but I'd rather start with something simpler. "

            It were as if Stephen’s head was plunged underwater. Thoughts escaped him and his breathing lagged several paces behind. Through it all, muffled sounds endured around him. The infrequent disembodied howl, the irregular rhythm of loki’s heartbeat, even the casual ticking of his grandfather clock. For one imperfect moment in time Stephen was stuck. Stuck in wanting. Stuck in the seconds before the god had spoken those words. Stuck trying to pretend that this wasn’t the god’s angle all along. 
            
            If Stephen’s heart wasn’t already held together by brute force and mystical rope it would have shattered in that instant. “ You can’t take her, “ he managed to croak out between shallow breaths he stole. “ You can’t take my daughter from me. “ Despite it all, as pathetic as it was, the sorcerer supreme did not live a muscle. He didn’t let go of the thin waist he held, he didn’t bump off the chin pressed to his head, he didn’t even look up to try and meet green eyes he knew would be full of emotion. They always were. Bursting with meaning and thoughts tightly held. It was part of the manipulation. 
             
            
            

“ i know , you think yourself a problem solver . that was the the other issue . “ loki said the words with a ghost of a smile . one quickly diminished by the smell of stephen’s hair under his nose and the familiar weight on him pressed to his chest. the hug lasted a second too long . long enough for loki to withdraw into their head and proceeded with a normally suppressed thought . 
            
            this isn’t sustainable . 
            
            “ I’m taking anua with me when i leave . “

            Stephen had known Loki long enough to approach them as one would a wild animal. While the rabid nature of his infrequent companion varied across the years, the skittishness did not. So there he stood, patiently, palm outstretched,  allowing loki to drag himself forward on their own terms. Always on their own terms until there was relinquishment. 
            
            Sometimes that came in the form of a suppression. Outward restraint rather than the blatant checkmate Loki always strived for. Here, it was a sigh, an annoyed grumble, and Loki's chin nestled into the sorcerer's crown. That was enough for Stephen to push in; his weak grip found the god's hips and pulled him into a tighter embrace. 
            
            "That's difficult for me."

             I know my reply implies Stephen has more knowledge than he should at the moment, but to potentially ease your mind a bit, what he said is mainly just a pleasantry to make people feel welcome in his spooky house. I envision he can sense the intent/energies of those approaching his home (indicating he is about to receive a visitor), but that is all he knows until your character reveals more to him! :^)

Seeing how Matt views Stephen in Daredevil (1998) #5 does something to me

Therein lies my problem:  I want to invoke the same feeling as Steve Ditko's work, but by design, his work for Stephen is complex to describe because it's psychedelic and elusive. I want to portray his magic as lofty, poorly defined, and leaving the reader with everything but nothing conclusive at the same time, but that isn't how cohesive narratives are formed hmm... I prefer to write flowery prose, but for Stephen, that goes against my own point. 
            
            Idk!! To summarize my Stephen is freaky and weird is the best way possible. He's not the best socialized, so his dialogue made him come off stiff, but he's very polite and tries very hard!
