I want to share something, and I hope you all understand it and also give me your suggestions. I haven’t been very active for the past few days, but I came across a lot of news about how many authors’ books were removed from Wattpad without any warning or even an email. That honestly scared me a little, because I don’t want to get stuck in the same situation. And to be very honest, I feel my book deserves better treatment and maybe even a better platform. These days, the moment people hear the name “Wattpad,” the first reaction is often, “Oh… those authors who write cheap, illogical romance in the name of stories.” I am not pointing fingers at anyone, and I never had a problem with any kind of author until this label started affecting writers like me. Because of a few people, the entire community is being pushed into unnecessary trauma, including genuinely good authors—but I’ll leave that point here.
If we look honestly, Wattpad has always given more importance to British or non-Indian authors and fresh international books. Even if Indian authors’ books make it to the Top 10 rankings, the actual earnings still go to non-Indian authors, right? Indian authors have given a lot to this platform over the last three years, and the current potential of Wattpad exists largely because of them—almost 70% credit goes to Indian writers, and I’m saying this after proper research. So why shouldn’t we give other platforms a chance, especially when Indian authors’ books can be removed here without reason or warning? It’s not like Indian authors don’t participate in Wattpad contests—we do, but somehow we still get pushed aside. I don’t know why. Writers who genuinely write good books also deserve opportunities.
