thinking about how jc describes wwx's actions as "playing the hero" when we know that wwx is just doing the morally right thing. he's not playing the hero, he's not doing this for glory, fame or because of his pride.
wei wuxian is doing this because it's the right thing to do, but also because there's a debt that both the jc, jyl and wwx owe the wens. a debt that wwx alone pays.
honestly, i will never get jc stans saying wwx betrayed jc or broke his promise. that's not true at all, jc is the one that comes up with some warped and twisted version of the original promise.
"In the future, you’ll be the sect leader, and I’ll be your subordinate, like your father and my father. So what if the Gusu Lan Sect has its Twin Jades? The Yunmeng Jiang Sect will have its Twin Prides.”
but jc says "That I'd be the Sect Leader and you my subordinate, that you'd help me your whole life, that so long as Gusu Lan had its Twin Jades, Yunmeng Jiang would have its Twin Prides, that you'd never betray me or the Jiang Sect" which is not what wwx said at all.
"like your father and my father" includes jiang cheng giving wei wuxian the freedom to make his own decisions and not to resent him for that. wei changze left the jiang sect and jfm didn't stop him. wei wuxian willingly left the jiang sect after jc said "how much trouble wwx is bring him" and jc resented him for that.
