Really, it all narrows down to how you identify yourself. If you want to be considered straight, go ahead. You might have some issues with other straight, sexual folks, though; I've noticed that, as a whole, LGBT folks are a bit more informed on asexuality than straight folks.
And as for the hate towards asexuality, most of it stems from a lack of understanding from sexual folks. Many either think we are making up our orientation or that we "just haven't met the right person yet". There are times when I feel alienated around sexual folks, just like other asexuals might. The same reason that straight folks diss LGBT people, and homosexuals bash bisexuals; lack of understanding.
