Forbidden Fruit

She hangs from the branch in glorious display,
Bold and radiant, vain within her bloom.
Unlike the rest, she tempts the light of day,
And draws the wandering soul toward his doom.

Just one taste is how it always begins,
Soon hunger grows and knows no end.
Lust and Gluttony become his sins,
And the Angel from his heaven descends.

Yet in his hand he holds her ever near,
The fruit he keeps though grace is long since gone.
No regret remains for what has brought him here,
He chose the fall and proudly continues on.

          	She is the forbidden fruit he chose to devour;
Her sweetness lingers, refusing to sour.

          	—Jasper

Recently, when I was not lost in the mists of building realms of angels, demons, and fallen gods, I began writing about something quieter.

          The power of choice.

This book holds writings that began as prompt responses in a community of writers I am honored to call home. They share a common thread — choice, consequence, and what it means to stand at the edge of something and decide.

The stories are fictional. But the emotions beneath them are not. They hold the particular truth that comes from a writer who has lived what he imagines.

I am a writer. I create. I ask the what ifs.

Only in death shall I surrender my pen.

Attention, Wattpad Writers

Whether you're still dreaming about writing your first chapter, halfway through your manuscript, or you've already conquered the publishing realms, I'd love to invite you to join a wonderful Discord kingdom of writers.

Our court is made up of storytellers from every stage of the journey. Some are outlining their first worlds, some are bravely writing into the unknown, and others have years of experience and published works behind them. No matter where you are, there is always someone willing to brainstorm, encourage, celebrate your victories, or help you untangle that impossible plot knot.

We spend our days discussing writing, sharing ideas, celebrating milestones, offering feedback, and occasionally descending into wonderfully absurd conversations about philosophy, symbolism, squirrels, and whatever creative chaos finds us next.

If you're looking for a supportive community that believes stories are best built together, we'd be delighted to welcome you into our little kingdom.

If you're interested, send me an email at watcherofash@gmail.com, and I'll happily send you an invitation.

Come pull up a chair. We'd love to hear your story.

Attention, little mortals.

Apparently, The Lost Star has now reached 9,000 reads, 2.1K votes, and over 2,500 comments.

An alarming number of you have chosen to descend into these realms voluntarily.

More concerning still, many of you continue returning despite repeated emotional injuries.

          Curious behavior.

On behalf of the stars, shadows, demons, angels, and various emotionally unstable immortals, thank you.

Every read, vote, theory, and comment has helped breathe life into this world. Watching you unravel prophecies, hunt symbolism, defend your favorite characters, and occasionally threaten the author has been deeply entertaining.

With only a handful of chapters remaining in The Star Awakens, I feel obligated to remind you that becoming attached to fictional characters remains a dangerous hobby.

Some of you have ignored this warning entirely.

          As expected.

Thank you for walking beside me through these realms.
          Now prepare yourselves.

The end of Book Two approaches.

And existence has a terrible habit of changing when Light and Darkness decide to settle old debts.

The Ashlen Woods are stirring once more.

After spending time in other realms, I have returned to The Ashlen King.

Many chapters have been temporarily unpublished while I work through a full revision and polish. This story means too much to me to leave rough edges where sharper truths belong. Over the coming days, I will be revisiting each chapter, deepening the atmosphere, strengthening the characters, and ensuring every page is worthy of the readers who choose to step beneath Ashlen’s branches.

The first three chapters are currently available.

As each revision is completed, new chapters will return one by one.

For those unfamiliar with the story:

The Ashlen King is a dark fantasy about cursed gods, fallen angels, demons, and forgotten creatures of myth who have been banished to the Ashlen Woods for the choices they made involving humanity.

When a young mortal woman flees the cruelty of her village and seeks refuge in those very woods, she discovers that monsters are not always what they seem... and neither are kings.

          In Ashlen, every choice matters.

And every choice has a consequence.

If you decide to wander into the forest, I would truly love to hear your thoughts, theories, and reactions. Your comments help shape these long nights of writing more than you know.

          The woods are listening.

          And so am I.
