An interesting idea for your Darling in the FranXX story is after the events of Lightfall in Season of the Deep the FranXX are modified for deep sea exploration and combat as Squad 13 faces off against the children of Xivu Arath Hive Goddess of war. Who even goes as far as creating her twisted version of a FranXX.
