Vein’s gaze sharpened, the sudden distance between them doing nothing to cool the heat simmering in his eyes. He looked at her for a long moment before saying, his voice low and edged, "If you were only going to apologize for that… then maybe you shouldn’t have come here in the first place."
His words struck deeper, causing a weirder sensation in her stomach.
Cerisse felt the flush crawl hotter across her cheeks as she quickly averted her gaze, unable to bear the intensity of his stare. But she knew better that escape was impossible this time.
