I want to get a dog, but I have two parakeets. Any recommendations on what breed, and how to stop the dog from trying to eat my birds?

            Quick answer - Golden retrievers and Labrador retrievers - they are very affectionate and should be very nice with birds.
            
            Long answer - I used to have two budgies and I have a big dog and a cat. I think that if you are to get a dog, I would recommend that you try to keep your birds in a different room than you dog at all times. Even the calmest dogs have instincts so if they see a fast moving small creature they might lunge and accidentally... you know.... But I had a Labrador and she was really good with the birds (: Still, I HIGHLY recommend that you don't let your birds out of their cage in the same room as the dog.
