The “mother” starts feeling jealous of the beauty and youth of her “daughter” and becomes acutely aware of her own aging and unattractiveness. This reference to motherhood and its issues is very striking throughout. It even manifests on a physical level: the “mother” sacrifices her body for her “child.” Despite the monstrous changes, the protagonist still wishes her clone success, sacrifices her life for her, but receives only pain and suffering in return.
