; heavy breaths, heart thudding like the rapid, ceaseless pounding of war drums in their chests. they were not supposed to be here. outside, under the cover of darkness' embrace, upon the rooftop of the sinyala facility. getting there had been a struggle, what with the climbing through windows and hauling themselves up the building's fragile structure like some brave adventurers exploring an undiscovered land. irene's hand was still shaking, the gloves discarded to expose the striking burn scars upon them, palm sweaty as it clung to johnnie. cleavers to a pant leg. although her face betrayed nothing, looking down over the facility from such a great height made an uncomfortable sensation settle in her stomach that only grasping onto johnnie would dispel.
it was not often that she was allowed out, especially at this hour. if there were no trials, she had three hours of consciousness before being sedated into sleep again. so, it was very rare that she got to go outside. her memory already failed her often, but she could not recall the last time she had been outside and seen the sky or the stars, and she stared at them now as if she were burning them into her mind with a branding iron, chest heaving with both excitement and exertion.
` i like it, ` she said. not much, but it was itself an extraordinary thing to hear. irene liked johnnie, she liked jigsaws, and there was not much else she cared for.

to hear a woman of few words such as irene talk was always a blessing to her ears , she didn't talk much either , really but she could always talk for so long to and about irene . this woman's heart through it all was really only filled by one thing , one person , that she loved so much . it really was worth it to be out here to see her stare at the stars like she was forever engraving them into her mind . }

@irelast ✦ { the feeling of her heart beating so hard and fast , almost hurt . adrenaline , fear , and exhaustion all beat through her heart and the rest of her body , sucking in a deep breath of crisp night air , it brought much needed relief into her system . still as she breathes and takes in the view from the rooftops of the facility she had so painstakingly climed , she was not calmed completely for her fear , her fear to be caught atop these rooftops with another , irene . but it was all worth it to risk being out here at such an hour , to see the stars she missed looking at and to see the one she'd miss most out of her day , irene . it was just worth it to be out here with her , and that was all johnnie needed . Irene clung to johnnie with an almost iron grip as if to anchor herself to both the roof and johnnie , and in return , johnnie would grasp her ungloved hand and squeeze it tight once as if to reassure her someway whilst turning her head and gaze away from the night sky to irene , to offer a small smile . another thing she thought might help the nerves of being up so high , but really , it was just an excuse to gaze at irene . to admire her and how she looked beautiful under the night sky , scars , and all . truthfully , there wasn't anything much johnnie cared about nowadays that wasn't irene , she was perfect in her own way to johnnie , and the only one johnnie thought was truly free of sin .
