@evil-dead Sure, I'll take a look at that story. Would you happen to have a version on Word? I find it a lot easier to edit with the Track Changes feature -- you will be able to see all of the corrections I make, and I can add comments as well when needed. If so, you can email it to xstiner@gmail.com. I read over the first chapter, and it's very interesting!

That is strange. Here, most of our editing/writing courses are in communication programs, and English Literature programs (which I took) focus more on analyzing literary texts. That's awesome to hear! Editors are very important. You should read "The Copyeditor's Handbook" by Amy Einsohn. I'm reading it now. It's a great introduction to copy editing and includes exercises and answer keys.

I love "Sharp Objects". What's your favourite book of hers? Did you see the trailer for the "Dark Places" movie?

@evil-dead you're not discourteous at all! Haha I am by no means a professional writer, but I appreciate the sentiment. Your message is actually quite timely -- I'm currently studying editing at Simon Fraser University and was going to post an ad in the forums for people who are looking for someone to read over their story. I'd be happy to do a copy edit and give you some thoughts about character/plot, if you like. I glanced over your story and it sounds interesting. I also love Gillian Flynn's novels.

Let me know if you're interested. I'd be checking your story for all the mechanical parts (spelling, capitalization, punctuation, hyphenation, abbreviations, etc.) as well as grammar and syntax. You wouldn't need to do anything in return -- I'm looking for more editing experience.
