Unus was no stranger to weird shit happening when his powers kicked in . sometimes he’d say something and it’d be taken literally — like ‘wild card’ causing a feral , growling playing card to appear in his pocket — usually it was just nonsensical , harmless stuff . unfortunately , he had no such luck upon waking up one morning . he’d been walking to the bathroom when the floor around him turned to an ominous black - and - white spiral . panicked , he’d tried to call annus only to drop his phone inside , the technology falling until it disappeared from view . terrified , he stayed where he was , not wanting to know what would happen to him if he fell in , too .

“ I - I don’t know .” He sniffled , not looking up at the other as he’d pulled his knees to his chest and buried his face in them just to avoid staring into the spiral . “ I was just . . . walking to the bathroom w - when I woke up this m - morning , and the — the floor just . . .” he trailed off and sighed . “ I - I was gonna call you . . . b - but I dropped my phone into it ‘n I dunno w - where it went .” He had no idea how to make it go away , though he was sure that his panicked state wasn’t helping .

even just staring into the spiral for a day was enough to make him miserable . it made him feel nauseous and caused his head to ache unlike anything he’d ever felt . it definitely didn’t help his fear any , nor did it make that damned spiral go away . he heard the other calling out and knocking on his front door , but when he tried to respond , the words got caught in his throat which was sore from crying . luckily , he kept a key tucked under the mat outside should annus need to enter his house when he couldn’t come to the door .

the morning after unus had drunk - cried into a box of chicken wings , he called his friend to let him know he was alright . “ hey annus , just calling to let you know that I’m still alive . . . this headache might be the death of me , though .” he muttered weakly into the phone . considering how drunk he’d been , the gnarly hangover he was suffering from wasn’t too surprising .
