i  don't  feel  like  rewriting  his  character  notes  so  tldr:
            —     his  mother  is  lang  qianqiu's  father's  older  sister,   and  she  was  married  off  to  the  son  of  a  well  of  merchant  to  keep  peace  during  the  change  of  leadership when her brother became king 
            —    lanfen was born  about  six years into their marriage,  and his birth was the start of the decline of his mothers mental health as she never quite recovered from her postpartum depression 
            —   lanfen's father left them when he was six,  leaving lanfen to take care of both himself and his mother as the king and queen decided, in all of their kindness, did not aid them
            —   lanfen took to selling fruits and vegetables in the market to bring in coin to keep them surviving, even if his mother was barely functioning at this point in time 
            —   the first correspondence they ever got from the palace was through one of the queen's ladies, who invited both his mother and himself to lang qianqiu's birthday celebration, the gilded banquet 
            —    his mother decided he was not fit to go and meet his extended family, so lanfen remained in that small village outside of yong'an as his mother and yong'ans royal family were slaughtered by an le
            —   lanfen would only discover the news days later when lang qianqiu visited, offering him shelter inside of the palace,    lanfen was eight at this point and he'd decline the offer,  instead reaching out to his father and his family who would take him in under false pretenses 
            —   he was instead made to wait on his half brother and sister,  and would not find an escape from the abuse until he was 17, nearly a decade later when he'd run into yin shui
            —   he'd become a junior official for the palace of tranquility shortly after they met under circumstances that i'm still figuring out so bare w me
