So, I’ve got this random memory that keeps popping into my head, and I’m not sure if it’s because I have too much time on my hands or if my brain just likes to torture me. It’s about this BL book I read last year on Wattpad that got on my nerves SO MUCH. I can’t even remember the name, and I didn’t add it to my reading list because I never want to read it again.
The plot goes like this: the bottom (who’s older) cheats on the top (who’s younger) with a girl from his office, and I think she’s his superior. The bottom hides it for months, and when the top finds out and confronts him, the bottom literally defends himself, saying the top is overreacting. Like, seriously?
Here’s where it gets worse: they have a group of common friends, and instead of calling the bottom out, they all side with him. They guilt-trip the top into forgiving the bottom before it’s “too late” and he finds someone else. Excuse me? The bottom messed up, and everyone’s blaming the top for being upset? The audacity!
And the most disgusting part? The bottom kisses another guy even though they’re not broken up yet. The whole story just leaves you with this awful vibe of everyone making the top feel unreasonable. I kept thinking, “Am I the only one who sees how messed up this is?”
Then I checked the comments, and guess what? The readers were all criticizing the author, and surprise surprise, the author defended the bottom. She was like, “It’s not completely his fault; it’s the situation. You can’t understand because you haven’t been through it.” Ugh, no. Defending cheating as “the situation” doesn’t sit right with me.
Maybe I’m overthinking, but this whole dynamic just felt off. Anyway, rant over. Back to reading books that don’t make me want to throw my phone out the window.
Good night
