gina x ricky
week one
A smile spreads on my face as a gray typing bubble pops up on my screen. I can hear Nini ranting about something having to do with a turtle and a chicken wing? I haven't really been tuning in. Instead, I've been texting Ricky.
"G? Are you even listening?" Nini asks, waving a hand in front of my face.
I quickly shut my phone off and place it in the back pocket of my jeans. "Yeah, of course. So what happened to the frog after you towed it?"
"What? You mean what happened after I was watching The Princess At The Frog and my car got towed?" She knits her eyebrows together in confusion.
"Yeah, yeah, that," I say.
Suddenly, my phone vibrates in my back pocket. I pull it out, drowning Nini's voice out, and turn it on. My eyes land on a text from Ricky. As soon as I read it, a giggle escapes my lips. Typing a response, I tuck a loose strand of hair behind my ear with an eager smile on my face.
"What's so interesting?" Nini asks, stopping her story to peer over my shoulder and look at my screen.
"Nothing!" I quickly say, hiding my phone behind my back.
"Come on, It can't be nothing. You've been smiling like an idiot at it all night," she says teasingly.
"I promise, It's nothing," I say, lying through my teeth.
From her expression, I can tell she isn't completely buying it but she leaves the topic alone anyway.
week two
Clutching the straps of my backpack tightly, I make my way through the hallways of East High. Soon I stop in front of my locker and put in my code. I swing open the door to be met with the familiar off-white, chipped paint coating the walls inside, and my books scattered across the surface.
Suddenly, I feel a tap on my shoulder, startling me into letting out a small scream. I turn around instantly to be met with Ashlyn, a confused expression resting on her face.
"Ashlyn!" I exclaim, placing my hand on my chest dramatically, "What are you doing here?"
"Visiting you at your locker?" She says inquisitively, raising her eyebrow.
"Cool, just don't sneak up on me like that again," I say.
"But I didn't really..."
As she continues speaking, my gaze shifts to Ricky standing across from me. He leans his shoulder on his locker, skateboard in hand while talking to Big Red. I watch him laugh at, most likely, a corny joke from Big Red and respond, moving his hands around like he's telling a story.
I turn back to Ashlyn and listen to whatever she's been talking about. For some odd reason, I feel like I'm being watched. I part eyes from her to see Ricky looking at me this time. I feel a rush of heat in my cheeks, luckily for me it most likely isn't visible. He wiggles his eyebrows in an attempt to be funny, causing me to laugh at how unfunny and ridiculous he looks.
"Did I miss something?" Ashlyn asks, extremely confused now.
I quickly turn my attention away from Ricky and rack my brain for an excuse.
