❝ heart of darkness. ❞

It was three days after the shooting fiasco and Monet and Raelin were on their way to 'address' Rico about what happened that night. "Fuck you doing?" Raelin asked one of Rico's guys who began to approach Monet. "She's getting searched, or she ain't getting in." He replied. Raelin stepped closer to the guy, who was dramatically bigger than her. "Don't trip, Rae. We good." Monet assured her God-daughter.
The guy then got down and began to search Monet's bag, boots, and waist for any signs of a weapon. "Do your job. Don't be stupid, nigga." Raelin warned, noticing that he was groping Monet a little. "You good," The guy said, signaling Monet could go. Raelin began to follow after her but was stopped. "Nah, little lady. Just her." Rae looked off worriedly, watching as Monet slowly left her sight.
It wasn't too long before three gunshots rang out, making Raelin quickly take out her gun and shoot the guy in front of her two times, smirking as she watched his body fall to the ground. Monet looked over to Raelin and nodded, as Owl, their disposal guy, hopped out of his red truck.
Owl got out of the car and began to wrap the bodies up in bags and get rid of them, "To be some frail ass niggas, they heavy as fuck." Owl complained as he loaded up the bodies. "How long you think till shit blows back on us," He concernedly asked.
"It won't if Ramirez picks up," Monet replied. "Where the fuck is this nigga," She rhetorically asked. Raelin shrugged, as Diana pulled up in their car. "Yo, toss the burner you used to call Rico." Monet ordered her daughter as she and Raelin got into the car. "Already done," Diana informed her, "Anything from Ramirez?" Monet shook her head in response.
"I'm sure he'll hit you back," Raelin replied. "It's not like him, Rae. Something's up." Monet assumed. "Ma, maybe we should get back to the hospital. Dru'll be awake soon." Diana suggested. Monet nodded as Diana pulled off.
Later that day, Raelin went to visit her father in prison. Lorenzo told Daniel about the shooting and instantly he called his daughter, wanting to make sure she was okay. "Vamos. Veamos esa cicatriz." Daniel clapped, making Raelin roll her eyes. (Come on. Let's see that scar)
"Papi, you're way too excited about this." She chuckled, lifting up her shirt a little bit to show her stitches. "Plus it's just a graze." Raelin downplayed. "No subestimes ser rozado por una bala, mi amor. Es tan grave como recibir un disparo." He expressed. (Don't underestimate getting grazed by a bullet, my love. It's just as serious as getting shot.)
"Really?" Raelin asked, widening her eyes. "Sí, a tu tío Emmanuel le rozó una bala y pensó que todo estaba bien, ni siquiera fue al hospital. Dos días después, cayó muerto." Daniel explained to his daughter. (Yes, your uncle Emmanuel was grazed by a bullet and thought everything was fine, he didn't even go to the hospital. Two days later, he dropped dead.) "Wow, I didn't know it was that serious," She said, putting her shirt down. "Yes, it is. It's a good thing your Auntie Monet took you to the hospital. Just make sure not to rip your stitches, Mija." He warned, causing her to nod her head.
"How's Dru?" Daniel asked. "He's okay. Pretty upset with both Monet and Cane, he blames them both." Raelin informed him. "Eh, he'll get over it." He waved off, "Cane?"
Raelin shook her head, "Monet kicked him out a while ago. She makes it so hard for us to see or speak to him. I just hope he's okay."
"You care about him." Daniel smiled. "Of course I do. I don't know what I would do if something bad happened to him." She sighed. "You need to get him back in the family, Raelin. You guys need him."

Raelin sat at her desk, in her dorm room, finishing up some homework for her classes. She groaned at the sound of a knock at her door, getting up to answer it. She rolled her eyes once she saw Tariq and moved to the side to let him in.
Raelin closed the door behind him and returned to her seat, not uttering a word to him. "Hey," He spoke. "Sup," Raelin replied, shoving her face back in her books. "I just came from court. My mom is free."
Raelin softly smiled, finally turning to face him. "That's really good Tariq, I'm happy for you." She admitted.
"Yeah," He breathed out. "I visited you in the hospital, and brought you flowers but they wouldn't let me in."
"That's because I told them not to." Raelin replied, "You chose her over me, Tariq. Without any hesitation." She expressed, referring to the night in the bar when he covered Diana instead of her. "Come on, Raelin. It wasn't like that." He sighed.
"No, it is like that. I'm always everyone's second fucking choice and I'm tired of it. Whether it be with you, or Cane, or even fucking Monet. I'm the one that people run to when their initial plan gets fucked up."
"Raelin... " Tariq trailed. "We're never gonna work out." Raelin interrupted. "And It was stupid of us to even consider it, you should go." She told him. He looked at her, before softly nodding and getting up to leave. "I really do care for you, Rae. And I mean it." Tariq concluded before closing the door.
